People keep asking me why i am leaking so many tracks from SOS 5. But you will soon see that Manchoo went to town on the mixtape and blended, splice & pitched up a lot of joints. And i would prefer that you heard them in their original form before you hear how they fit on the overall tape.
The mixtape is now mixed, Manchoo did a great job; and the first rough cut for the lead off track, "Move The Crowd"; came in earlier today. So expect to see this out shortly.
In other mixtape news, Kidz In Space & Kayo are both hard at work in the studio working on brand new mixtapes. It's going to be a plentiful Xmas!
Here it is, the debut single from PAKKZ THA GENERAL (formerly known as PakkzWunn) titled “SALUTE ME”.
West Auckland Hiphop staple and highly respected throughout the national Hiphop scene, PAKKZ THA GENERAL is currently putting the final touches on his long awaited debut album “D-DAY”. The lead single attached - “SALUTE ME” - produced and mixed by Rob-E (E-40, Tha Jacka, Mistah F.A.B), and mastered by Grammy Nominated Jared Lee Gosselin (Macy Gray, Floetry, D12, Young Jeezy).
“SALUTE ME” is an ode to the dues PAKKZ THA GENERAL has paid over the passed 6 years from the acclaimed local and trans-Tasman MC Battles, to the mixtape circuit and endless features on songs with nearly every local Hiphop artist to date. A career that enables the ferocious MC to stake claim to the title of General; and with an army of microphone wielding soldiers behind him, his debut album “D-DAY” will solidify that promotion.
“D-DAY”, the album, features appearances from Armageddon of Fat Joe’s Terror Squad, Prince Poetry of Organized Konfusion, Geda K of Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records collective, and new comer AlBe Back familiar to most for his role in the movie ATL with T.I. As well as an array of local artists like Young Sid, Dei Hamo, Mr Sicc and fellow West Auckland label-mate Albino.
This week we visit the war-ravaged city of Beirut, once known as the 'Paris of the Middle East'. Beirut is a fascinating metropolis with a 5000-year history and a thriving music scene, which Nick D explores to the full.
This week's New Zealand song getting a Lebanese reworking is 'Brother', the 2009 multi-platinum single from Smashproof and Gin Wigmore. The cover artist is Beirut-based musician and producer Zeid Hamdan. Zeid goes to extreme lengths to craft an epic cover featuring the talents of local rapper RGB, and Mustafa Said - a blind master of an ancient middle-eastern instrument called the Oud.
Meanwhile, Nick D gets an education on the history of Beirut hip-hop. He also hangs out with Lebanese music legend Tony Hanna, a 70-something-year-old singer and dancer who performs nightly for packed theatres - but never before 3am. The episode is topped off with the reactions of Smashproof's Tyree and Deach to the Beiruti version of their hit song.
